Arabesque Data from RRS Discovery Cruises 210 (27 Aug. - 4 Oct. 1994) and 212 (16 Nov. - 19 Dec. 1994).
Arabesque is the UK contribution to the JGOFS Arabian Sea Process Study. It was a study of upper ocean microbial biogeochemistry in the Arabian Sea. Its focus was carbon and nitrogen cycling processes linked to climate change. Arabesque was supported by a field programme consisting of two cruises of RRS Discovery. European Sub-polar Ocean Programme (ESOP-2).
The ESOP2 project is devoted to studying the processes of deep-water formation in the Greenland Sea. The project was started in 1996 as a continuation of the ESOP-1 project (Which in turn was a continuation of the Greenland Sea Project), by several European Partners (EU MAST Programme). In August 1996, an inert tracer was released in the centre of the Greenland sea gyre. Along with the tracer, several RAFOS floats were released. The spreading of the tracer has been monitored by regular cruises, collecting both hydrography, tracers and nutrients.

Thalassa, in order to carry out classical process studies, typical of JGOFS; to focus on small-scale biogeochemical processes, at a daily scale; to study the influence of N, P and Fe on oceanic fertility; to conduct a calibration/validation operation for the SeaWiFS colour sensor. Part of the French programme PROOF ("Processes in the Ocean and Fluxes").  France-JGOFS / PROOF Data Management Office, OOV, FR (2003)
The EUMELI operation, with 5 cruises, took place in 1989–1992 in the Northeast Atlantic subtropical area off the African coast. It aimed to study the progressive changes in the biogeochemical processes and fluxes due to the Mauritanian upwelling dissipation in three different areas characterised by decreasing trophic conditions (from rich to poor surface primary production), the so-called eutrophic, mesotrophic and oligotrophic sites located at ~20° 32 N, 18° 36W, ~18° 30 N, 21° 00Wand ~21° 00 N, 31° 00W, respectively (Morel, 1996).  France-JGOFS / PROOF Data Management Office, OOV, FR (2003)

The FRUELA project studied in the Southern Ocean, the biogeochemical carbon fluxes across the boundaries of the water column, especially the air-sea CO2 exchange; the vertical particulate flux and the carbon accumulation in sediments. The FRUELA strategy comprised acquisition of seasonal data from moored current meters and sediment traps (March 1995 to February 1996), experiments and property measurements during 2 cruises aboard B.I.O. Hespérides, (1995-96 austral summer), in the Bransfield and Gerlache Straits. (2003)
The Bermuda Atlantic Time-series Study (BATS) with datasets currently available on line, from Oct. 1988 to Dec. 2001, has highlighted the importance of biodiversity in understanding biological and chemical cycles. Marine biodiversity results in a diverse array of metabolic processes, and consequently varied turnover pathways for dissolved organic carbon, for example. The BATS science has also focused on carbon air-sea exchange, seeking an understanding of how oceans respond to the impact of humans on atmospheric carbon dioxide. Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR), Paul Lethaby (announced)
